Workshops & Workbook

Get aligned on what matters, and where you’re going.

Sometimes the greatest challenge isn’t identifying what’s wrong. It’s building agreement about what comes next. In an Optimal Horizon Workshop, I bring leadership teams, departments, boards or whole organizations together to examine their current reality, clarify shared priorities, and define their next horizon.

When it helps

More than a productive conversation. Shared direction.

Through structured facilitation, I help participants move beyond competing perspectives and immediate demands to consider what the organization could become, and commit to getting there.

A workshop is often the right step when:

  • Your leadership team has competing priorities and no shared picture of what comes next
  • Staff, leadership, and the board are working from different understandings of the same reality
  • An assessment has revealed what’s happening, and now the team needs to agree on what to do
  • You’re entering a period of growth, transition, or new leadership
  • A strategic plan exists on paper but isn’t shaping daily decisions
  • You want a staff retreat that ends with real commitments, not just good conversation

How it works

Four steps. Four questions. One recognizable path.

Every Optimal Horizon Workshop follows the same four steps, Assess, Align, Build and Strengthen, and at each one the room answers a single question. The length, the audience and the depth change to fit your organization; the path stays the same.

  1. Step 1

    Assess

    Where do we stand?

Discovery findings are shared with the room. The team names what’s working, the signs they recognize, and where those signs start.

  2. Step 2

    Align

Where are we going, and for whom?

Starting with the people the organization serves, the group defines its Optimal Horizon in its own words.

  3. Step 3

    Build

What are the horizons in between?

The team names two or three intermediate horizons, what stands in the way of each, and the order to take them in.

  4. Step 4

    Strengthen

Who does what next, and how will we know?

Owners, first steps for the next 30, 60, and 90 days, measures of progress, and a rhythm for checking in.

Before the workshop

Discovery

Every workshop starts from evidence. When it follows an Organizational Assessment, the assessment findings feed straight in. On its own, it begins with key stakeholder interviews, an all-staff survey, and document review where it helps.

Leadership receives a short Horizon Brief before the day, so the room starts from a shared picture and nobody is surprised.

After the workshop

The Horizon Report

Everything the group agrees on is captured in a written Horizon Report: your Optimal Horizon, the horizons between, and the commitments, owners and measures you set.

A follow-up check-in keeps the work moving. The workshop is complete on its own; if you want help with what comes next, my firm, The Change Up Group, offers implementation support.

Formats

Three formats. The same four steps.

Every workshop is shaped to your goals within the same framework. All are held in person, and I travel to organizations anywhere in the country.

  • Half day

    Horizon Session

For a small leadership or department team that needs shared direction quickly. All four steps, focused on the horizon and the first commitments.

  • Full day

    Horizon Workshop

For a leadership team, or several teams together, working through all four steps in depth.

  • Multi-day

    Horizon Retreat

For full staff retreats: deeper work on the path, breakouts across teams, and commitments at every level.

The Optimal Horizon Reflection Workbook

A record of where you are, and where you’re going.

Every participant works through the Optimal Horizon Reflection Workbook: twelve exercises, three for each step, that bring greater insight into where the organization is now, where it is trying to go, and the horizons in between.

From naming the signs you recognize to writing your Optimal Horizon statement and setting your first commitments, the workbook charts the path, and becomes the foundation of your Horizon Report.

Inside the workbook: three exercises for each step

  • AssessWhere do we stand?
  • AlignWhere are we going, and for whom?
  • BuildWhat are the horizons in between?
  • StrengthenWho does what next, and how will we know?
